Position: Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner [1]

As an integral member of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Department, the Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner (ICP) works in the capacity of a consultant to meet the needs of an evolving infection and prevention practice. The ICP works closely with the patient care programs and facilitates the development, implementation and evaluation of IPAC strategies. The position will support the organizational strategic priorities and initiatives at oth Uxbridge and Markham site.
Duties include: conducting surveillance activities; organizing outbreak management; acting as a consultant internally and externally; providing education to all levels of health care providers; linking with external agencies; and participating in research activities. The role also includes providing IPAC recommendations for construction and design projects.
Required Skills
Expert IPAC knowledge is required to act as a resource and problem solve IPAC issues
Baccalaureate degree in a health care related field is required
Certification (or eligible for certification) from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC)
Member of national infection control association (CHICA-Canada) preferred.
Possesses knowledge of epidemiological principles, statistics, microbiology, and infectious diseases.
Motivated and self-directed individual with the ability to function effectively both autonomously and as a team member
Demonstrates effective leadership skills
Well developed communication (oral, written, and presentation) and interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to set and adjust priorities
Knowledge and application of adult education principles
Demonstrates skill in computer databases (uses spreadsheets, Word, PowerPoint, internet searches, e-mail comfortably
Demonstrates good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
