Ken Ferdinands

Ken Ferdinands has been a resident of Ward 1 for almost 38 years. He is married to Colleen, a Physiotherapist, who works in the community; they have two married daughters.

Ken’s educational background includes degrees from Wilfred Laurier University and the University of Toronto. His area of specialization is Geography and Urban Studies.

In addition to being the incumbent Councillor in Ward 1 Ken is also a member of the Board of the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and The Source Water Protection Board for Lake Simcoe Area and South Georgian Bay.

I decided to run again in this election because as the Town approaches a population of 50,000 persons the municipality is poised to undertake the most ambitious program of spending in its history. Council will need people with experience and solid record of being able to manage complex issues and projects if these undertaking are to unfold in a fiscally responsible manner.

The most important issue facing the municipality is the need to improve the ratio between residential and non-residential tax revenues. To achieve this goal over the long term we need to develop the lands adjacent to the Hwy #404 corridor.

Key issues in Ward 1 include the development high speed internet infrastructure, and a mechanism which ensures that rural areas receive a proportional share of municipal investment.
