JUSTIN ALTMANN

PLATFORM

I am the conduit to bring the old and new residents of Whitchurch-Stouffville together by building a strong and united community for all.

I will strengthen and defend rural Whitchurch-Stouffville by being the voice for agriculture and environmental issues at the municipal and regional level.

I will ensure that both new and long-term residents, young families, and seniors have appropriate services and facilities to meet their lifestyle needs within our financial means.

I will seek out good, clean, sustainable industrial and commercial economic development that would provide our very own residents good jobs, closer to home; allowing families more time together and instilling strong family values.

I will demonstrate strong fiscal management with my personal accountability and accessibility to all residents of Whitchurch-Stouffville.

I will bring new, up to date and appropriate levels of communication to keep all residents informed of present town issues and decisions to allow residents to voice their opinions and be active in the process.

BIOGRAPHY

Justin Altmann is the fourth generation of Whitchurch-Stouffville and was born on July 23rd, 1982 to Tony and Tanis Altmann. He started life as the second born of four children. In 1989 after the birth of his sister Sarah the only girl of three boys Aaron, Justin, and Sean, his family moved back to Whitchurch-Stouffville to carry on the family farm “Yarrow Manor” owned by his Great Aunt Grace and family now for over 100 years.

It was during his first semester at the University of Guelph that he built and created his first agricultural business with the help and guidance of local trout farm owner Mr. Don Burd, Livestock Auctioneer Mr. Frank Bennet and farm Market owner Bud Chepack. For well over 16 years he continually reinvented his business to meet the needs and demands of the ever changing multicultural population. He invested in the many communities learning different languages, customs, and culture.

In September of 2006 he engaged in a conversation with Mr. Herb Bell a community minded member and retired teacher. Mr. Bell encouraged him to run as a counselor for Ward Two in Whitchurch-Stouffville. Further in discussion he was asked what political party he represented provincially and federally. Justin explained how he sided with the Conservatives on business and fiscal responsibility yet he was also in favor of the Liberals in health care and education.

Mr. Bell stated that he was a red tory.  Justin stated to Mr. Bell that in primary school they were taught that when the colours red and blue were mixed together they formed the colour purple which is his signature colour of today.

On September 29th with one month to create a campaign he registered at the town offices to run for the office of Ward Two Councilor. The youngest at the age of 24 he ran and won 9 of 13 polls, winning 903 votes and needing only 10 percent to be acclaimed. His results and determination sent shock waves through the municipality gaining great debate and support thus making headlines through local press and different political parties. Shortly after the election he was asked to join the Provincial and Federal riding association of Oak-Ridges Markham. Justin soon became a Constituency Assistant to MPP Peter Shurman where he learned about communicating information appropriately, networking with various agencies, organizations, industries and the public. He also performed research and liaised with Queens Park Ministry Officials on Provincial Legislation and policies.

In the previous election of 2006 many voters outside of Ward Two wished to vote for Justin; however municipality rules prevent voters to cast votes outside of their designated ward boundaries. After great debate and many conversations with the general public the decision was made to run for the office of Mayor on March 29th, 2010. During the 2010 Election, Justin captured the attention of the town with his controversial purple truck, which he used as he campaign headquarters. The truck caught the attention of the media and town by law enforcers, and was forced to park his truck for a week while he fought the bylaw rules. Hundreds of local residents lined up to sign the truck with permanent markers. Justin once again proved that his strong work ethic and creativity was what residence wanted. At the age of 28, Justin came runner up in the mayoral race to the incumbent mayor with Mayor Emmerson winning 4049 votes, Former Mayor Sue Sherban winning 2976 votes, and Justin splitting the vote with 3025 ballots casted . Today in 2014 he seeks to be elected to the office of Mayor with many years of civic duty, and long term interest in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville.
