Local Chamber Executive Director Resigns Over Ethical Differences

September 17, 2014

Bruno Grisé has resigned as the executive director of the Stouffville Chamber, citing irreconcilable differences between himself and the board.

In a statement released by the Chamber today, Mr. Grisé is quoted as saying that his decision to leave the Chamber was based on diverging views about how the Chamber planned to address ethical concerns about conflicts regarding members.

"However it has come to my attention that there are individuals who are in probable conflict of interest positions within the Chamber, as well as members who have likely used the Chamber to further their own personal agendas," stated Mr. Grisé. "It is unfortunate that the Board of Directors is unwilling to adequately address these issues."

Whitchurch-Stouffville Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Resigns

The Whitchurch-Stouffville Chamber of Commerce held its regular monthly Board Meeting on September 16, 2014 at which time the Executive Director submitted to the Board his resignation. Citing irreconcilable differences M. Bruno Grisé tendered his resignation to the Board.

"It has been an honour and a privilege to have served the Chamber and its membership. Over the past few months we have completed the restructuring of the Chamber and have implemented a number of significant changes which have begun the turnaround process of the Chamber. However it has come to my attention that there are individuals who are in probable conflict of interest positions within the Chamber, as well as members who have likely used the Chamber to further their own personal agendas. It is unfortunate that the Board of Directors is unwilling to adequately address these issues. As a not-for-profit organization we should be held accountable to the highest of ethical standards in order to protect the best interests of the members. In order for the Chamber to be successful it is important that the Executive Director and the Board share those common values and currently we diverge on those issues. As a result at this time I have decided to commit my time, effort and energy to other organizations." stated Mr. Grisé.

Founded in 1977, the Whitchurch-Stouffville Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and improving trade and commerce as well as the economic, civic and social welfare of the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. The Chamber supports local businesses by providing community and business information and resources and through networking opportunities for its members.
