IAIN LOVATT, WARD 5The main reason I made the decision to run for Ward 5 Councillor was because I have become worried with council's current capital spending over the last 4 years and I feel that it will put an increased burden on taxpayers to pay the debt and operating costs when we are already a debt burden community. Stouffville needs visionary business minded leaders in council representing the financial interests of our community. Believing that Development Charges (DC) from builders are covering all the costs of the Town's development isn't completely true. Properly planned, operationally budgeted and locally required services are what's needed. Another reason for running was the lack of services for our youth and seniors. I would like to see Stouffville lead York Region by increasing youth programs designed to engage and inspire our future generation of leaders, while caring for our Seniors with the development of a Senior's Resource Center as well as making sure their voices are heard at council. I am also inspired to see the revitalization of Downtown Stouffville giving entrepreneurs the possibility for their businesses thrive and be supported by residents. Fiscal responsibility, services for Youth and Seniors and a revitalized downtown are key issues for the Stouffville residents I have talked to and I hope to be able to take their concerns to the council chamber for the next 4 years.
