JIM MCCRON, WARD 5

My name is Jim McCron. I have worked for the Beer Store for the last 31 years.  I have lived and worked in Stouffville for the past 10 years. My wife Sandra and I have been married  30 years and have raised 3 children, Andrew, Jennifer and Brandon.

I am proudly seeking the position of ward 5 councillor.

I speak daily with the residents and have heard their concerns and complaints to which they feel they are not being properly represented.

If elected, this will change immediately.

In my 30 years of business, I have gained a knowledge of budgets and business finance.

The Mayor and a few council members have chosen to take  on a massive debt load that ultimately, you and I, the taxpayers could pay for through residential tax increases.

We owe in the tens of millions of dollars from the last four years. You will hear that most of this debt is covered by “development charges”.

As housing starts are slowing and interest rates going higher, we can’t rely on future development.

Spending millions of our dollars on a new town hall with little public input, is not fiscally responsible

Going over budget millions of dollars on capital expenditures is not fiscally  responsible.

Transparency and financial accountability is an integral part of being a councillor.

i will make sure the residents are aware of  all council decisions on capital expenditures by utilizing the internet and local media outlets.

There will be tax increases and I would like to keep them to a minimum.

We need to pay down debt and curb capital spending NOW

We must invest in our seniors after all, they have invested in us. 50 years ago the senior ratio was 1 in 13 people. It is now 1 in 8 and will be 1 in 4 in 20 years. We need to listen to our seniors. We need to listen and act on their behalf at council.

we need to explore new youth services. I would like to initiate a program utilizing the youth community service hours required by the board of education and integrating them with our deserving seniors.

Revitalization of the downtown core is a project that I believe the ward 5 and ward 6 councillors and the business owners themselves need to work on from the owners perspective. Let them tell us what they are looking for. Their ideas, that is what is important. I have been in retail for 30 years and would be an asset to this project.

I will work hard, I will be honest and  I will accountable to ALL the residents.

Thank you,

Jim McCron
